1997 Jan's Journeys West Coast
Roadtrip
Late August 1997: Let the Roadtrip Begin!!!!

The bags are being
packed with much more than we (meaning "I") need; our
house sitter has moved in and is bonding with Lancie and Teazer (the FatCats), even as
they send reproachful glares our way (they understand what the luggage means -- look below
at the red fury in the eyes of Teazer!); and John and I are about to launch the lengthiest
of our "Jans Journeys"
the 1997 West Coast Roadtrip!
On Sept. 3rd well begin this 5 1/2-week adventure
with several days in the Seattle/Tacoma, Washington area, where good friends are meeting us.
Then were off to Vancouver, British Columbia. From there, were driving down
the Washington, Oregon and California coastlines. Weve made reservations at the most
unique B&Bs and small Inns; most are right on the coast, and they all sound truly
special
perfect "Jans Journeys" material!
Well stay in each location for 2-5 days; and, aided by our Notebook PC and digital
camera, well be uploading real-time entries (and bunches of photos!) into
"JsJs" from each of our 12 delightful stops along the way.
Our guide for
this excursion will be V V the Orca, whom we acquired during our recent visit to Victoria,
B.C. (thus his/her name we dont know if (s)he is a Victor or a Victoria!).
After all of our delightful whale watching in California and Hawaii, we thought it only
appropriate that a representative of those magnificent mammals act as our mascot
V V
may even pop up in photos now and then!
Our itinerary is listed below, and each section will become
a link as soon as weve added the first on-the-road journal entry for that particular
stopover. You may click on any date/destination after it's been linked and read about our
discoveries and experiences in the corresponding location.
We hope youll join us as V V leads the way
Pacific-side, down the spectacular West Coast; were really going to enjoy taking you
along with us so we can share the highlights!!

Mid-October 1997: Our Roadtrip Comes to an End
It's been an extraordinary journey: we've met so many fascinating people;
we've stayed at some truly splendid B&Bs and Inns; we've seen the most incredibly
stunning scenery...and we've had great fun uploading our thoughts and photos on a realtime
basis while we've been on-the-road! We're home for a couple of days now, trying to get
back into the good graces of the FatCats! Tomorrow we're flying to Colorado; we'll be at a
condo in the mountains at Breckenridge for a week and will see many of our dear friends
from the days when we lived in Denver. Upon our return, we're going to Yosemite; all of
that natural splendor is practically in our backyard here in Northern California, yet
we've never been there. For those who may be wondering how we can travel for such an
extended period of time, John is on an 8-week sabbatical from his office (he is eligible
for this little perk every 7 years -- whether he needs it or not!); and I granted myself a
sabbatical from my own business (it's good to be the boss)!! So watch for upcoming
"Jan's Journeys" articles on our next two treks, as well as all of those that
will follow...and thanks, as always, for joining us!!!
